Sounds like it's not connected to the network at all.

Are you connecting to the router with ethernet or wifi?

Do you have a router, or is your PC directly connected the the DSL modem?

That doesn't answer the question, though. Two completely different methods to connect means two completely different ways to diagnose. Via ethernet, you'll want to check the TCP/IP settings. Via wi-fi, you'll have to get the security (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) cleared first before you can connect.

Different scenarios means different solutions. If you don't know, then us throwing answers in the wind isn't going to resolve the issue either; indeed, it'll most likely frustrate you even more because you'll be trying to fix the part that's not broken.

Start > run > type in CMD hit enter

When the window opens type in ipconfig /all then enter

Post the following items which will be displayed
IPv4 Address
Default Gateway
DNS Servers

These will all be an IP address such as 192.168.1.100, but all will be different

Hi Miranda,

The other guys are asking valid questions but since you asked for my help again, I wanted to chip in as well:

First, please do what Asheville Native is asking, we need to know the result of that.

On top of that, if this was the same network connection and PC you were using before and all of a sudden you are not connecting to the sites with either browser, make sure you have all the usual LED lights lit on the DSL modem (and router if you have one in between the DSL modem and your PC to split the connection between multiple machines, if not ignore).

Second, if all of the above checked out, I suspect a faulty/modified Hosts file which is a local file that acts as a static DNS server. I'd like you to take a look at that file by following these steps:
Quote:
1) Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4) Click File -> Open
5) Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
6) Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
7) Select "hosts" and click "Open"
Here is a YouTube video is you need a visual aid:

YouTube - ‪How To Change Windows Host File In Vista‬‎

I need to know what you see at the bottom of your host file besides the usual:
Quote:
127.0.0.1 localhost

Hosts file isn't the problem, if it had somehow been corrupted or hijacked, she would receive time out errors, not error about not being able to resolve the URL.
