I just installed Windows 7 today on my Acer Aspire 5720 laptop. I recently discovered, however, that if I try to boot with the power cord plugged in I will get stuck at a black screen before Windows will begin to load. If I unplug the power cord it boots fine.

I've used XP as well as Vista and have never had this problem before.

Any ideas?

This is not a newer model, is it? Two logical possibilities that I can think of as a cause for this odd issue would be either chipset drivers for mobo or BIOS.

Have you checked for the latest versions of either one? Anyways, updating them would be my suggestion.

Updating the chipset drivers seems to have fixed it.
