I was recently asked some questions about EDI and I honestly don't know much about it.

A co-worker is wanting to set up an EDI system between our company and another. Basically the company wants to be able to send us load information(We're a trucking company) via internet and then be able to look to see when the shipment has been delivered.

Are there companies out there that have this has a service or is this software that would have to be built?

EDI (the company) has been collecting data from movie theatres for years. If by chance you are dealing with them, they set the formats and programming is straightforward. More likely, you have a company shipping through you that wants tracking. Fedex and USP already have robust systems that do that, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't find similar proprietary software in use by smaller trucking companies. Just call around to a few and ask what type of tracking software they use and what they think of it. You'll get faster and more honest answers that way.

I think in this case EDI means Electronic Data Interchange.
