I received an email from MSN saying I need to contact them within 48 hrs, if not they will shut down my email due to being compromised, then my wife's Facebook account was shut down saying was compromised, the two incidents happen the same week, within couple days difference. We dont have the same email address. I have been having problems being harrased from this people and, at this point I don't know if I should be paranoic or careful, Any advised for me on what you think I should do?

Change the passwords if you still have access to the accounts. Don't use the same passwords on multiple sites. Don't click links on emails telling you that your account has been compromised or suspended as they could very well be phishing attacks from someone hoping to steal your username & password. Run a spyware scan on your PC using the free software at malwarebytes.org and superantispyware.com.

EC has good advice. Remember, MSN never needs to ask for your password. If you get an email asking for your account and password or they will shut down your account, you can be absolutely, 100% sure it did not come from MSN. If you did reply to one of those emails, you are going to need a new email address. Can your wife still use Facebook? How would your Facebook account get compromised unless you had given somebody your email account password?

If you don't have Malwarebytes on your computer, you need to get it (free program), update it and then run it to see if they have infected your computer. Get ALL the updates for the operating system you have and install them. Also keep your antivirus updated (as I am sure you already know).

What happened to your wifes facbook account is she probably got a email from what she thought was facebook and clicked on the link in the email, had to put in her password and they got all they needed to mess her up on facebook. I get those emails all the time from the phishers.. the give away for me was they are sending it to a email address not listed with facebook PLUS they are saying someone already on my friends list, has sent me a friend request. I NEVER, NEVER go anywhere that requires me to click on a link in a email or even a private message in facebook... Best thing she can do is make a new facebook account.

Excellent learning here: Register a different email address with Facebook. (I did.) e.g. If you usually use gmail, make a yahoo account and use it to register on Facebook. If you get a friend request on gmail, you already know it is a phishing attempt because a legitimate one would go to yahoo.

I'd slowly stop using the MSN accounts.
I'd switch to gmail. I've been using gmail since it was beta; have never had problems.

I agree with scanning your computer.
