I downloaded a free 30 days trial of AVG Anti-virus. The 30 days ended today, and although I like AVG a lot, I wanted to try someone else to get another perspective on anti-viruses.

I decided to uninstall it, and it started at 7pm. At some point AVG stated that due to an error, it will take longer to unistall. Now is 10.40pm, and I am still waiting.............

I do have installed Malwarebytes as an antispyware, that I use occasionally. Should I download another antivirus? I do not hear anything happening inside my pc, so I will assume that the uninstallation has stopped working. Or should I wait until tomorrow and see what happens?

Your opinions, please.

You might try AVG's removal tool; AVG - Download tools

After you've completely removed AVG I'd suggest downloading and installing Microsoft Security Essentials and keeping Malwarebytes.

If you don't mind paying for Antivirus I've had great luck with ESET Smart Security; ESET - Antivirus Software with Spyware and Malware Protection

I forgot to add that AVG has its own "uninstall" button, but I started to do it from the Control Panel. If I leave AVG alone, since my license expires today, I take that to mean, it will no longer operate on my pc, would it be okay to download another antivirus?

Microsoft Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are still operating.

You want to be sure it's fully uninstalled prior to installing an alternate product. Antivirus programs are notorious for not working and playing well together.

It's been my experience that some uninstallers that come packaged with a program do a less than thorough job of removing the program. Using a standalone uninstaller often produces better results.

After removal reboot prior to installing an alternate product.

I've had trouble getting AVG to uninstall too from time to time. My trick is to disable AVG's services, reboot, then uninstall. For some reason it won't always let me stop the services so I have to disable and reboot instead.

You might try the CCleaner tool. Click on Tools and select what you want to uninstall. Just a thought.

Might still have to reboot.
