Microsoft Security Essentials is probably the one to get, unless you just happen to be running XP 64bit which isn't supported.

Outside of MSE I've used Avira AntiVir, Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes AntiMalware, all with great success. The real nice fearure of Avira is that it uses very few system resources and is a very good product with daily updates. The other two Spybot and Malwarebytes is the best combo, IMO, to combat spyware and other crap.

Thanks all for your responses and links. Very helpful. I have Malwarebytes and Norton now, and I guess I will go and download MSE.

I am so paranoid about downloading things, especially when it's not a household name (like Norton and McAfee are to me). It amazes me how much some people know and how you know who's safe to download from and who's not.

Thanks again for the help.

Brian, thanks for that info!
Sorry about the busted link.
All it was was a link to search results of the computer forum for the term "av"

Sounds like you are on the right path now.
