Inkjets have their uses if you are a graphic designer and need to make high end mock ups of packaging or ads. LaserJets just don't have the tonal range, but are good for proofs.

I've been using generic refilled ink cartridges in my Cannon PIXMA MX 882 and it keeps stopping printing blue. Should I put new Cannon cartridges in it and see if it will repair itself or just buy a new printer and start over using Cannon's cartridges.

Has my printer been ruined by this?

Remove the cartridge and clean its spot with a Q-tip and a paperclip to remove any residue possibly sitting there. Replace it with a Canon cartridge and run the cleaning cycle a few times. If it doesn't rectify itself, then the print head is shot. The print head runs around $110.
