And macs arent that expensive now that you can get one for $800. It will do what she wants it to do, and will last a long time as well.

I think she was referring to a DVD/Blueray drive as the OP stated one of the uses was to watch movies. I don't know of any "netbooks" that include a built in DVD drive. You can easily connect an external one via USB, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a small lightweight netbook that you can easily take along with you. AFAIK, netbooks have always had a HDD, they have to put the OS somewhere.
