Just curious, but how are you getting *on the Internet* right now ?

From what I have noticed, most services provide a modem or whatever doohicky that is wireless already ...

Would it be possible to contact your provider and inquire about maybe getting a newer unit from them ?
It would be matched to *their* requirement !

The one we have, does have 5 hard wire points PLUS wireless (latest technology).
We needed just a bit more throughput for Netflix,
So we upgraded to the next higher speed,
and so they also supplied us with a newer modem.

I have owned several routers and the best one and the one I have had for the past 4 years is an Apple. Best money I ever spent. Easy to set up and have no problems with it all. We are a house with both Macs and PC's. Plus I have my Wii, Xbox and cell phones running off it.

I have not used a Netgear router, but their switches have been highly reliable for me. I have installed 4 D-Link routers with great success. Linksys is not a brand I will buy again.

BTW, MY ISP does not provide wireless routers. Others do.

Apple's AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme routers, $99 and $179 respectively, are very easy to set up.

I got the Airport Extreme. Pricey for sure but it has paid for itself over and over. I had bad luck with linksys so I avoided that one the second time around. It didnt like mac computers for some reason but then again it could have been operator error. My mom has a mac and didnt want to spend the 179 so she went with some brand I never heard of. She had Best Buy set it up. She had a lot of issues with it not finding her Wii, so she went ahead and got the apple. She is pleased.

im on FiOS now and the router comes with the package.

I was using a D-Link DIR-615 before. Never had a problem. Many controls the average user will never use. Small challenge to set up but didn't kill me either.

Only cost $50 dollars 5 years ago. Apple Airports are a bit pricey, but do have a very simple set up.

Here's a D-Link DIR-601 with wireless N. Cheapest I've ever seen:
