I need to get something like a 10-20 gig hard drive for this laptop. Anyone know of a cheap place to get one? Couldn't find it on Craigslist. Trying to avoid Ebay due to high shipping costs. I am hoping something like less than 25 bucks. This laptop was made around 7-8 yrs ago. I am going to only use this laptop for a SQL Server 2008 install. No need to store any data or download anything. Thanks.

ebay is probably gonna be your only option for something that cheap unless you can find a local shop that has some used ones kicking around. A bit of googling turned up prices starting around $39.

I just looked on ebay and found several with bids starting at $1.99 with free shipping. Toshiba 20GB IDE 2.5" hard drive. Functional equivalent to what Dell put in your D600 when they shipped it.

The starting bid has nothing to do with the selling price.

Unless an extra $25 is going to break you, buy a new hard drive.

There is so much for sale on ebay that often the starting bid IS the selling price. Besides, I said starting bid, implying that it was an auction.

OP said he needed it to cost under $25 and only needed 10-20GB. There are none that meet his criteria on Newegg (or Tiger Direct for that matter).

Be wary of buying used hard drives. They have a tendency to fail sooner. I've bought two off of eBay because they were cheaper. Both ended up failing only a few months after I got them. That's why I only buy new hard drives now.

I should also say you might check into booting off of a thumb drive. You should be able to get an 8 to 16 gig one for relatively cheap and you won't have the problem of the hard drive ever crashing. Just another idea to mull.

Since you said that, perhaps you can suggest where the OP can buy a new 10-20 GB hard disk for $25.00?
