Tech also tells me that warranty has expired. I bought a two year warranty exactly one year ago.

I may have gotten a couple drops on the keyboard several months ago....I find it hard to believe that anyone doesn't do that once/year. It never got wet enough that I had to wipe it. But I know that I have coughed on it.

All the keys worked perfectly. Spillage would have messed with the keyboard?

The company is M*cro Center. My suspicion is that they get a lower price by taking on a self warranty of the computers they sell.

Best Buy never gave any static whatsoever on their computer warranty's. Guess I should have stuck with them.

Electronics don't like water and getting them wet will typically void your warranty. What is wrong with your computer?

The keyboard works great. I never spilled anything on it.

The screen went blank. The tech says its the motherboard and blames it on spillage. It would take more than a cough to get to the motherboard.

A lot of warranties exclude spilling it or gross neglect because they figure you should be responsible enough to know better. Lap tops are cheap now but you still have to pay a lot for a warranty to cover dropping or spilling something on them if that's even available. Sounds to me like you just have to suck it up and move on. And no one is going to believe all you did is cough on it.

I'm making a wild guess at laptop since the OP didn't bother to tell us

I would think that if enough moisture got into it to trash the MB the keyboard would be having problems. Not a guarantee, but....

I think MC is trying to wiggle out of an expensive extended warranty. Good reason to avoid buying anything from them, if that's the case.

Some laptop keyboards are not sealed, so liquids will pass on through to the board below. The keyboard will be fine in such cases, since it wasn't soaking in the liquid. The board below ... maybe not.

If the motherboard was ruined by water, there should be some visible evidence, such as water stains, burned spots or components, or corroded solder joints. I think it would be reasonable to ask them to show you the damage caused by water.

Sorry.....it is a laptop.

Thank you for actually reading my post instead of jumping to conclusions.

I did once spill a little on an IBM lap top. The effected keys will never be the same.

For one thing, I never spilled on this HP laptop. All of the keys work perfectly.

if they are slimy enough to make up spillage, I would think they are slimy enough to actually spill something.

Apparently they didn't enter the 2 year warranty on the computers record. They certainly charged me for it.
