You work for Asus or something?

Personally I am a fan of Sound Blaster:

I have this:

MOTU.com - 8pre Overview

Although, it's not primarily for gaming it sounds really good...

On topic though, I haven't used an PCI soundcard for over ten years. The internal 5.1 or whatever have been more than adequate.

I guess the question is would you be able to tell the difference in sound quality. Especially if the encoding isn't up to snuff. You'll just be hearing artifacts clearer.

I have to agree with harhar, I haven't really found the need to use a dedicated sound card in a long time. Standalone is better, but often marginally and is really dependent on the speakers you are using and the source of the audio. Most people online would say that outside of really high end audio and some really good speakers you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between onboard and standalone.

For me, I had no choice. The onboard soundcard generated interference that you could easily hear over the headphones ( was actually the sound from my fans). That was enough to make me get a dedicated soundcard. Once I did that, it was corrected
