To the OP: Do it.
My old computer with Vista would NOT allow me to use Windows Media Center to watch TV. It would crash when I tried to tune something.
Same hardware, upgraded to 7 and the tuner works now.
I still can't pause TV... but I think that still says something about how much better 7 is.

To everyone else: I wonder if you've actually installed Windows7?
Cool new feature introduced in Vista.
Even when doing a fresh install on an existing install, Windows will tell you:
"Hey, I found an old version of Windows installed here and I will just back this up for you".
And Windows then creates the wonderful Windows.old folder.

They do. But it isn't free.

I have called for work before. Only $259 for immediate help. $99 if you can wait a day....

So is that just the old Windows folder? There's so much clutter that builds up on an old system that I still feel its best to nuke it and start over.

It's the actual Widows folder and all the User Profiles, so:
MY DOCUMENTS, MY PICTURES, MY MUSIC blablabla

I agree, I always start over with a fresh install on a freshly formatted hard drive.

windows 7 is so much better than vista.

Do a clean install instead. Format hard drive and start from scratch IMO

OK, one more question. I also have a lap top with Vista. Can I use the same windows 7 install disk on it that I use on my PC or do I have to buy yet another install disk for the lap top? I know microsoft can be a bit greedy about that sort of thing.

You'll have to buy another copy.

With the laptop you'll also want to make sure that you can get drivers for the version of Win7 that you want to use (x86/x64).
