The only time I shut down/restart my computer is when I'm installing software updates that require a restart. Otherwise I just close the lid on my laptop and it goes to sleep when I'm not using. I restart maybe once a month, if that. How often do you guys shut down or restart your computer(s)?

I'm the same as you, only when I have to. I have it on a UPS so if the power goes out, I have time to shut it down properly. Other than that, it stays on 24/7. Of course, of those 24, I'm using it anywhere from 8 hrs to 16 hrs a day

Mine stay on 24/7. Since I built the newest ones and run Windows 7, they never seem to need a restart other that what Windows Updates require.

I tend to keep mine on 24/7, and have for years. I only shutdown if absolutely necessary for what-ever reason, and only restart if needed for software installation/updates.

A computer-geek friend of mine once told me that it is best to leave your computer on instead of powering down after each use. His logic was that it put less wear-n-tear on the hard drive, thus extending its life substantially. That was around 2004/2005, and my computer(s) have been 'on' ever since.

I haven't been using my "main" computer so I currently have it off. Plus I'm being anal about power usage no matter how small...

But before that it was 24/7.

Mine's on 24/7 and only reboot when Windows update finally bugs me enough that I give it. Current uptime is 19 days, 19 hours.

Typically, I don't ever reboot unless a software installation/uninstallation or system change requires me to.

I shutdown whenever it is not in use for 30 minutes or more. I also turn off all related hardware (surge strip, router, switch, Internet modem, etc.) whenever the PC is off.

The devices/appliances that are always on are: refrigerator, alarm clock and my electric toothbrush.

As often as I need to.

Might go a month without rebooting... sometimes less. This morning, I rebooted my laptop twice. Prior to today, it'd probably been a couple of weeks. My desktop at work gets rebooted once or twice per week. My phone system (linux based) only gets rebooted when there's a kernel update - not often.

There are a myriad of reasons one might need to restart their computer, and very few of them happen on a predictable schedule.
