I just upgraded to Windows 7 but had to download the new email program seperately. Was there some legal reason for this or what? No big deal really as it didn't take too long but I just could not figure why it wasn't part of the package for convenience sake.

What's the advantage of WLM over Outlook? (I never heard of WLM.)

Windows Mail in Vista replaced the ancient Outlook Express that had been around, unchanged, since Win98. During Vista's tenure, Microsoft released Windows Live Mail which was a free download and an upgrade to Windows Mail. Then they made the decision to omit a mail program from Windows and leave Windows Live Mail as a free download as part of the Windows Live suite which includes things like Messenger, Photo Gallery, Live Writer, etc. Most OEMs automatically include most or all of the Windows Live suite so people buying new PCs won't really know that those things aren't part of the operating system.

The advantage of WLM over Outlook is that its free. It has spam filtering which Outlook Express never had so for those looking for a free email client, it'll get the job done and its better than its predecessor.
