What is the difference between a camera or MP3 player in MSC mode compared to flash memory?
I don't know. I work with memory sticks all day every day. Never had one problem.

Win 98 did not support USB until 2nd Edition.
Officially, of course. There were ways to get USB to work on 1st Edition and even on Windows 95. That was when SAFELY REMOVE was critical.

As I say about religion: "If it comforts you, I have no problem with it".

Please, by all means, continue to use SAFELY REMOVE.

I like to live on the edge!

The obvious smart solution, why save 2 or 3 seconds and risk data corruption, which does happen even today.

I didn't say I use it, just that it is good practice. I also don't wear one of those straps when I replace a system board. Never fried a board yet.

I use eject. I've never used a strap. I just make sure I ground before I start.

To sum up for the OP, use it if you want to, don't use it if you don't.

What? We can't poke at you a little? You're not cool? I think you know from other posts I value you're opinion on a lot of things. Sometimes we disagree and I can't help myself when it comes to giving others a nudge.

I used to have an animated gif of a guy poking at something with a ten foot pole. Wish I could find it...
