yea, I have the same problem. Smart TV, wireless world, and we can't simply EXTEND the laptop desktop to the Television. .. So sad!
I have researched this for hours today, and cant seem to see an answer. I do not have the new WiDi Intel chipset that I read about. This seems the answer to everything!.... So, having said that, How Can I Get This Computer laptop Lenovo T61 running Win7 Pro to EXTEND it's desktop to my 2013 Samsung UN50F6800 TV?
Can anyone seem to figure this out?
It seems this technology has not gotten to a "black box" or a "transmitting dongle" VGA, or USB, or Networked protocol for the average pc system.

Can anyone let me know what to do?
I will appreciate any information that can get this task complete.

Thanks soo much,
Taz1956

You can use wireless HDMI: Vizio XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video & Audio Kit Review & Rating | PCMag.com

Your laptop will be "wired" to the HDMI transceiver and your TV will be "wired" to the HDMI receiver, however.

Default Samsung and wireless

hi, noob here.

Everything stated so far makes sense, and thank you to all for your insights

Been playing with my folk's TV (some "smart" Samsung 40" LED)...

videos like this (),
this ()
and this ()

don't really help... have to read up on this DLNA magic.

I've asked both authors to clarify if dongles are being used: with the samsung allshare thing especially it's quite confusing (the TV seemed to see my PC as a device, once allshare was installed, alas the TV "screen/device" was not found... as expected.. given that I don't have a WiDi dongle)

I think Samsung have got something called something like "Wireless Direct" , which is device-device, inside the samsung family (+droids?) but I'm on iOS , and ma's vintage (pre-smart), sooooooooo

I need a dongle, right?

Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS l502x owner (esata who? widi-waaa?) with too many "projects"
