I use XP, and I do this about once every 2 years when stuff starts to crawl. I got into the habit of storing most data on an external drive. I've tried ghosting, but never had success. I have yet to experience the crawl from Linux, however.

Install Linux distros every week, and yes, Linux does not suffer the bit rot that Windows systems suffer. Left Windows back in the 90s and have never looked back.

Y'all should get doubledriver for your nukes and paves, it keeps the (PITA) chore of locating, downloading and reinstalling your drivers to a minimum.

Freeware - backup and restore installed drivers
