Do you want a good gaming card or a video and image editing card?

For gaming, you would want a fast card. For Photoshop, Premiere, and 3D animation you would need an Nvidia quadro card.

I have the GT9800 Nvidia card in my quad core system.

It's not very expensive and it will handle anything that I throw at it!

You certainly don't need a quadro for Photoshop, Premiere and 3D. Quadro is for engineering purposes, where accuracy is critical.... such as CAD. And seriously.. Photoshop? The only thing Photoshop uses hardware acceleration is for rotate, and previews.

The GT9800 is a relatively poor value right now. For the same price, you could pick up something that performs better at a lower power usage.

It really depends what you want to do. For gaming, consider the Radeon HD 5670 if you want low price range.

The Radeon HD 5670 ($60), uses less power, and performs within a few fps (+/- depending on the game) of the 9800GT. If you're willing to spend a little more money for more performance and value... the GeForce GTX 465 ($130) is a great buy. But it uses a lot of power too.

Thanks but I don't game.

I don't really do much of anything graphic intensive.

The card I have is a whole lot better than just using the onboard chip-set that I originally had to use.

I didn't men to say it was a bad card. Infact, it's a great card, and was a great buy not too long ago. There's just more options now.

Cross reference these two charts:

PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards

PassMark Videocard Value Chart - Performance / Price of Videocards

And you will have a pretty good understanding of what you're buying, even if you don't know the specifics.
