I've had Norton for a minute but it's time to renew and I'm wondering if it really does all I need for it to do. I surf alot, shop alot and can't risk the wrong info getting into someone else's hacking hands. What do you all recommend ??

PC or Mac?

The antivirus market is quickly becoming a racket. The bad guys have shifted to new tactics that antivirus software isn't effective at preventing. Many of the traditional AV companies are now resorting to extortion-ware tactics. If you have a PC, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free and as effective as any product. If you have a Mac, you don't really need antivirus software.

Another vote for MSE, or alternatively Avast or AVG. I wouldn't pay for Norton, or really any of the personal virus products on the market.

Same here. I would never pay or suggest paying for virus protection for a non-business environment.

My list of happies:

MSE
Avira
AVG
Panda
Avast

(in that order)

I have Norton NIS on six computers. I pay for it. Since I started using it I have noticed: Not a single virus, worm, trojan, etc on any of the computers. I never know when it's running, I never know when it's downloading updates.

I'll keep using it, thanks.

I also suspect your internet practices are such that infection is not that likely in the first place.

I have MSE on all my computers, and not a single worm, virus, etc. nor do I know it is running or when it updates unless I look at the update long.

Not gonna get into a debate of the necessity of it. I'll just say that Sophos has an A/V product that I use, and its free for non-commercial users. Then there's also ClamAV, which is a opensource product.

I also recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. I have been using it for a couple of years now on all of my PC's and have not had a single issue. Don't pay for Antivirus, there are plenty of free ones that are just as good or even better.

Assuming this is directed at me.

Absolutely not. My internet practices would make your hair stand up straight. Reckless as hell and never worry about it with Norton on board.
