I just had somebody ask me if this is a safe download.

PDF, DOC, DOCX, DAT, BIN, PHP Viewer - FreeFileViewer

The web page says it is absolutely free and will open Word, Excel, PDF, audio, video, text and binary files. Extensions include .dat, .doc, .docx, .flv, .gif, .jpg, .mp3, .mp4, .pdf, .psd, .txt, .xls, .xlsx, .asp, .bin, .bak, .bmp, .dfg, .cur, .divx, .emf, .eps, .ico, .info, .mov, .ra, .rm, .rtf, .tif, .vob, .wma, .wmf, etc, etc, etc.

Has anybody ever seen it or used it? I didn't find any reviews and only a few comments. One comment said it was free so it must be worth it, but that comment can mean several different things.

What do you think?

I've seen the name before, but not used it.

This Martin wants to know about FreeFileViewer – is it safe? | Cloudeight Information Avenue makes me believe that I wouldn't install it on any machine of mine.

Seems too good to be true. So assume it is too good to be true. Opens documents *and* binary files *and* images *and* video ... no way!

Personally I don't trust any piece of software that actually has the word FREE in the name of the software.

You've got a point there. It usually costs too much.

When the official program name and/or the web page starts with the word "free", I typically pass on it...

I was looking at some photo hosting script sites today, and they are cheap. Or free. Until you see that you need multiple plugins and extras to make them nice.

Too much stress on XXX hosting.

I looked at Gallery and Coppermine. Gallery completely locked up my machine, twice. Fail.
