Any Way to Transfer video/audio from DVR to Computer? (how to, work)

Depends on the DVR- some have a USB, ethernet/network port which provides for connectivity. TiVO I believe has all that and makes it easy to transfer stuff back and forth (or just look at video files on a network share). The DVR I lease from my cable company doesn't have any way to do that, hence I may be going to TiVO soon.
