No idea what's going on, except that 2TB and 3TB WD hard drives cost from $100.00 to $149.00 at Walmart.

Not like I have been following the HD prices but I really couldn't tell the increase in their price.
I wasn't planning on buying one either, not at least till next year which by then I assume the price will drop again?

If they're going to sell them for the higher prices, and never go back down again, then they should produce them here.

I said it before I say it again, I am cheap or at least spend my hard-earned $$ veryyy carefully but I do not have the slightly objection to spending more on certain type of stuff if it means better quality. Items such as hand or power tools (screw drivers, wrenches, etc.). Harbor Freight has some of the cheapest tools around but they are truly cheap in every sense of the word.
Instead of spending $X on a Made in China hand tool that I may not get to use is more than a few times before it breaks, I much rather spend $X times 5 to get something that is likely to last a lifetime. Not to mention injuries caused by cheap tools that cost a lot more than just money.

They need to bring some of the production back in the USA, period. Otherwise most of the population is doomed to be nothing more than low-income consumers.

Do you think that people are going to pay $300 for a 2 TB hard drive? It's not feasible to produce them here.
