I have one of those for my gaming desktop, not for the backlit keys but for the macros.
I wish I could have gotten the v1, with the 18 macro keys, mine is a v2 and only has 6 physical buttons and then 3 "M" buttons to swap between the sets....not as awesome but it still works.
Our Mac Book Pro is the first one I've ever used that is backlit. It doesn't really matter to me if it is or isn't though.
When I saw this I was going to reply to you: switch to one without it and you will sing a different tune. Once you have it, it's hard to go back...

I switch between different laptops everyday. It's a nice feature, but not that important to me.
