It would also be useful to have a couple of rootkit removal tools, like Kapersky's TDSSKiller, and WebRoot's AntiZeroAccess.
Sorry for sounding like a noob but what is a rootkit? Thanks

It's the nastiest kind of virus/malware there is. They use all kinds of sophisticated techniques to evade detection, as well as actively shutting down scanning and removal tools, and prevent access to anti-malware web sites. Removal and cleanup are often beyond the capability of most users.

Thanks for the link! And I guess it wouldn't hurt to have Kapersky's TDSSKiller, and WebRoot's AntiZeroAccess in handy?

Question Malwarebytes Free Trial

My free trial of Malwarebytes is about to expire; if I purchase it, then it will run in the background, thus slowing down my computer, correct? Should I then not purchase Malwarebytes? Or can I set it up to run only when I do a scan?

My recommendation is to uninstall the trial and then download the FREE version.

^^^ Spybot. I stopped using it a couple years ago too.

As for the rootkit, I've been using RKill by bleepingcomputer. Combined with Malwarebytes and SAS, it seems to do the job on the Win 7 Security viruses.

NEVER use Norton. If you have it on your computer, uninstall it. I find the combination of Microsoft Security Essentials, MalwareBytes and Ccleaner to be a very good one. Secunia PSI, from what I have heard, is also good for keeping programs up to date and secure. I have never used it though.
