It does not take very long to empty one of these cartridges, while it takes several months for the laser printer to use a toner cartridge that costs around $9.00. Sorry, I didn't mean your specific inkjet and your specific use-case. I was referring to inkjets in general vs laser printers for printing black documents.

Your inkjet is most likely a photo printer (as evident by 8 cartridges) and not a document printer. It's not fair to compare a photo printer to a laser printer when laser printers are for printing documents.

It's clear, that today, there are inkjets that will run you much cheaper when printing B&W pages than laser printers.

Really? You had to bring in the experts? I was enjoying the show and now it's probably over. Dang!

The Officejets and one brother inkjet stand out cheaper than the lasers. It's odd that they mix home office printers with photo printers. But even their own numbers tell the truth.

The one laser that stands out is the OKI MB471w.

I guess Consumer Reports screwed-up, because this is what they wrote in the article

Laser printers still have their place in home offices. If you print reams of black-and-white text documents, you probably need the quality, speed, and low per-copy cost of a laser printer.

Inkjet vs. laser
Text only. If you'll print only text, a laser printer is your best choice for fast, low-cost, top-quality black-and-white text. The best inkjet can match lasers' excellent text quality, but not their speed or cost.

Did you even look at their ratings? There's an obvious flaw which has already been pointed out. They include photo printers with document printers. Single out the inkjet document printers. See how they beat out the laser printers? Look at their own ratings and do a little critical analysis.

Don't blame me; I didn't write the article. Consumer Reports did.

I'm not blaming you. I'm just surprised that you supported what they wrote after clicking on "ratings" on the same link you provided. It's obvious once you look at the column for black text cost. It's almost as if you didn't bother looking through their ratings to do your own analysis and just went off of their summary page.
