if i want to watch a dvd i just use my laptop or desktop computer or xbox dvd drive.
There is more to DVD ROM drives on a desktop/laptop than just watching movies though.

Buy them by the six-pack. If one breaks, throw it in the dumpster and plug in another one. Get them online for about 20 bucks apiece.

For electronics, the quality has gone down significantly. People looked down on Main in Taiwan stuff where in reality, the quality of the products made in Taiwan were comparable to those made in Japan in the late 90s. Then came Made in China (complete garbage), quality really didn't get better, if anything they started cutting more corners and quality got worse and worse...

My Made in Taiwan Fisher DVD player from 2000 is still kicking strong. I bought like 4-5 DVD players later on with an average life span of 3-4 years and I don't even abuse them.

Often, you can tell an electronic device's quality by its weight. Light weight is not a good sign in my book.

I am greatful to those who have told me not to expect my dvd players to last long. At least I know I am not alone.
