I do tech support for my programs, and I have an uncanny intuitive sense to where I can almost see what my customers are doing with their computers and guide them through, but I have haven't been on the other side of a good tech support call since the 1980s.

Today I had a problem with my old Oki 5100n printer - likely due to a power issue a couple weeks back - and called Oki tech support. Got someone who was an obvious tech leader and he guided me through getting the eprom in the printer to act civilized while we chatted about Brooklyn, New Jersey, and India tech support during the waits for cap discharges and such. What a frikkin delight! I figured (as did he) the printer might be toast, but gurus sometimes win out. Man! Ten thumbs up for Oki tech support. Won't give his name so that he doesn't get swamped, but he knows I was happy.

Got a tech for HP that was in Texas when I was replacing a hard drive. I'd been through 3 or 4 idiots in India and just kept hanging up and calling back until I got him. From there on everything was smooth as silk. I asked for his direct number but he said he didn't have one. All calls came from a pooled system.
