One should remember that microsoft follows the same formula it did with DOS. Beta test it live with the customers, then offer a free 'fix'. Oops, deleted the hard drive, we'll send you a bigger better new one.

Anything with Dos which was less than version .3 you didn't want running.... no reason to assume they've changed.

So long as they don't go the IE route and do an update for you... didn't start off the day well when I had to uninstall IE9 before coffee.

You'd think they'd have learned about that with Vista.

I'd bet $100 within 3 years you WILL start to see laptops with... you guessed it: the new Windows logo emblazoned on the lid. And it may even glow blue.
The next next gen Windows phones? Yep. Same thing.
Then they'll open up several thousand Windows Stores so the real Microsoft fanboys can camp out too .... hysterically shrieking "Steve" .... "Steve" .... Ballmer !

As for the new Win8 logo ... neh .... Not sure about this Metro look either. Seems like a step backward. I like Windows 7 just fine now.

I don't like the font of the new Windows logo myself, but the overall design is nice and clean and modern. Hopefully, that will reflect the new OS.

(I just knew someone was going to say something this. Although I expected worse. Something like "really? Who cares about the stupid logo0? As long as it works" Can't we banter anymore? hehehe)

I'm not sure if MS is following Apple's lead seeing as how Apple changed their logo back in 1998 when they moved from beige boxes to "chrome"/grey. The rainbow apple looked okay on beige...but not so good on a grey box. So, if MS is following Apple's lead...they are about 15 years behind.

And why would MS embezzle their logo onto the "lid" of a laptop? Apple, like MS, is a software company. But, unlike MS, Apple designs their own computers. So why would Dell or Sony or HP or Lenovo et. al. be cool with producing a big 'ol Microsoft across their laptops? Besides, laptops already have those decals advertising which version of Windows is installed....isn't that good enough?

Also, I thought that Windows phones had the the Windows logo on them....Or are you just talking about a "glowing logo"?

This has always been my biggest gripe of the Microsoft vs. Apple debate. Microsoft (mostly) doesn't make hardware so people are comparing Apples (hehe) to oranges.

The look is so modern, from the 1800's:

IMO the Windows 3.1 and 98's were the best looking...

I don't care for the Windows 8 logo. The ones I like are from Windows 98 through Windows 7.

Huh? Microsoft sends people bigger, better hard drives? I wasn't aware that they manufactured hard drives.

No no, I mean with putting it on the lid.

Marketing. And watch, the first gen with a logo, it will be upside down when the lid is opened.

Can't see that across the coffee shop floor!

Yep. Nokia phones have a Windows logo on them. And you ask why Dell would put a Windows logo on its laptop?

This is all just a fun prediction. I think MS SHOULD brand laptops. But you had to burst my bubble by going and talking SENSE!
