Hello,

I am planning to buy a laptop for use in a classroom where there is no Internet connection. Do you recommend buying a mobile hotspot or getting a SmartPhone that I use for Internet? I am not at all tech savvy and have no idea what to buy or how much this will all cost. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Galee

Many smart phones can act as a mobile hotspot. That way you get the Internet on your phone which you can take everywhere, then your laptop or any other wifi device you might have now or in the future can access the Internet through your phone.

Isn't that expensive EC? (mobile hotspot)? I can get it for my HTC EVO but it's either $29 or $39 bucks a month on top of the regular monthly charge...

Yeah something like that. I'm sure it varies by carrier though. Its really the best of both worlds though.

With a little tweaking, the majority of smartphones can be set up to share their internet connection through a usb cable. That way, you don't have to pay extra to use it as a hotspot. However, if you aren't tech savvy, you may be better off just paying the extra for the MH plan.

That's typically against the TOS.

While in some cases it is against TOS, in others the company encourages it. Just check with your mobile carrier.

I agree. OP, it's best to just ask them before you buy. This way you know upfront.

Yeah but if I have 5GB/mo available and I only average 250MB/mo, I don't feel too bad tethering once in a while and using another 100MB.

Thank you all for your responses. Can somebody tell me what TOS is?

Also, I'd like to know how much a mobil hotspot costs? I don't own a smart phone. I've had the same cell phone for years and my bill is about $32 a month.
