Have you used this particular program? I am hesitant to do a complete reinstall as I don't know where the printer and wireless cds are to put them back on.

Instead of me pasting lines upon lines of text please go here, it has a description of the programs it contains:

UBCD for Windows

In your case I doubt it will help you though, it sounds like some of your system files are missing or corrupted..

What wireless card and printer do you have now? (Vendor and model number)

Maybe I missed your posting, what version of Windows do you have? Is there a model number on the Laptop? Did you get any CD's with the laptop?

The printer is a Lexmart but I think we have the cd around here somewhere or I could look online for it. I am guessing the same thing for the Belkin router #F5D9230-4. Is this the page I would download in order to set up my router to the computer? There is no version number after the model .. perhaps version 4? I do have the restore cd (XP) with the laptop which makes it easier to do.

No, this is:

Belkin : Support Belkin Router Setup

I hope you have the RJ45 (ethernet) cable.... (remember to use WPA2 and NOT WEP for wireless security)

Once you get the system installed and the network operational I suggest you get the Microsoft Security Essentials:

Download Microsoft Security Essentials

Sorry been busy updating everything. I reinstalled everything and it's taken a good while to update windows (back from 2008). I already had my wireless router hooked up and immediately I was able to connect. Thanks for your help.

P.S. Working now with some IE 8 errors but some updating may resolve it. I updated Explorer too soon before the windows updates I think.

The computer is WAY faster and very responsive now so hopefully my problem is resolved.

I have used CenturyLink's security before and it has worked well so I am trying it again. Now IE is working good and hopefully this is it. (crosses fingers).

Why do people insist on coming here and asking for help and then not taking advice from people that know what they are talking about.
