Yeah, it happened and I am really mad. 4GB of very special X-mas trip pictures got deleted.
I assume that there is no way to recover a deleted file from a thumb driver... right?

I think they are gone but you might call a computer tech type person and ask them if there is a way to recover them.
Hopefully you sent copies to someone? Posted on facebook? Put them on your actual computer hard drive?

It's a fairly straightforward process if it's a SD card, but I haven't had this happen on a flash drive.

Good luck elnina, I hope there's a way.

It is generally possible to recover files from a USB drive. It takes additional software and not all software is equal.

Try pc inspector.: PC Inspector - kostenlose Software fr die Datenrettung von CONVAR - Die Datenretter.

As long as you haven't written any new data to the to it you should be able to recover it.

No, no new data on the stick. I Googled the problem and read that recovery is vague.
Don't really want to try different programs that might don't work, and mess up the stick. Would rather try to use
a software that is KNOWN to work fine.
No, I didn't posted any of the (probably close to 800 pix ) anywhere.
Pretty inconvenient that "copy" and "delete" in a right click drop box are just right next to each other, and there was no confirmation question at all....

I got all excited about the PC Inspector software but they say that: "PC INSPECTOR™ smart recovery runs on all Win 9x, ME, NT 4.0, XP and Windows™ 2000 systems.". I have Windows 7.

Recuva - Download

I haven't had to try it myself, but I've used other software from Piriform, and there's a free version you can start with.

There is two versions of PC inspector, one is for computers drives and the one I linked too is the version for flash etc. I've only used the PC versions and it has worked great. It shouldn't cause any issues because it only attempts to read the deleted files. If it finds them it will list them for recovery, health of the file etc. Just make sure if you select for recovery that you recover to another drive.

Appears it's out of date, you could try running as XP. After install right click the icon >> properties >> compatibility >> select windows XP.

I've had luck with Photorec, which is open source and current. I've used it on Linux, but it also has Windows and Mac versions. Depending on your usage, don't be surprised if it recovers pictures that you deleted years ago.
