The battery consumption was a major turn of when the wireless mouse/keyboards first came out but over the years they have improved a great deal. Also their receivers went from a mouse size device with a 3'-4' cord to something that looks like a tiny flash drive so there is much less mess.
I currently use and love Logitech K750 Solar powered keyboard. It is slim and has its own solar chargers built-in, no batteries needed! For mouse, I opted for a Logitech trackball. They both come with the receiver but you actually only use one since one receiver also supports multiple wireless devices from this manufacturer which might be the case with other brands as well.
That said, if you did decide to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse, buy them as a set. Not the cheapest however this is a really good set.
If you shop for them separately, the total might be much cheaper.
How does that thing allow you to scroll up and down, left and right, and do things you used to be able to do with the right mouse button (that you no longer have on that sleek model) and all the rest? How does it do all those things with no moving parts?
Cordless mouse, wired keyboard. I HAVE TO HAVE the NumLock and CapsLock lights on the keyboard. You don't get that with wireless (consumes too much batterY power). At work, I HAD the cordless keyboard/mouse, but since a lot of my input is case sensitive, I never knew if my CapsLock was on. Turned both of them in and got a cheap 8.99 corded keyboard and a separate cordless mouse. MUCH BETTER!
I have an Asus notebook and that Microsoft cordless mouse and both my num and caps lights work perfectly.
My Logitech K800 wireless keyboard has a caps lock light, in the Caps Lock key, and when my hands get near the keyboard, the backlight comes on so I can see all keys in a dark or dim room.
