Should I install the Windows 8 preview or wait for the actual Windows 8?

Use a virtualization software and put it on that rather than your production PC.

I'd wait for a friend or family member to install it and play with it for a while, you might not like it.
Also remember (as Microsoft puts it)
Quote:
Windows 8 Release Preview is prerelease software that may be substantially modified before it’s commercially released

The only reason I would think about running the Windows 8 preview setup would be to see if the system meets the hardware requirements....

There's no reason to wait. Install it and see if you like it. You can try to install it on vmware or the alike, but gestures don't work.

They worked for me when I tried the RC a few months back.

I couldn't the touchscreen to work at all in VMWare. VMWare thinks my finger is a mouse. What software did you use? I might give it a try.

Sorry, I thought you meant the whole swiping the mouse to the bottom left, top right, etc. to get to menus.
I don't have a touch screen to test with

It's all good... I think I might install it on my laptop natively.... Metro without a touchscreen leaves much to be desired.

I think I will wait until it's been on the market for a while. On my PCs we're still running XP and Vista. Will probably upgrade those to Windows 7. No need to rush for latest and greatest software.

It's not that great with a touchscreen, either.
