How long does a laptop battery typically last? I've had my laptop (Asus) for two years. Three days ago a message on the battery icon has stated I should replace my battery. The charge is not good as it's down to 58% after maybe 20 minutes of online browsing. I obviously need a new battery but I was wondering if 2 years was a typical lifespan.

2 years is about right.
All laptop batteries start to degrade around that 2 year mark. Some actually only give a good charge for a year.

Of course someone will chime in that they've had a battery for 5 years and it still power their laptop for 6 hours....

2 years is an excellent lifetime for a battery, IMO. Why do you think the warranty on most batteries is only for a year? Because they estimate it will probably be dead/perform poorly sometime soon after.

Thanks for responding, guys. I was just curious as my battery was great and then a few days ago the juice started sucking up really fast and the warning popped up.

Before you go buy a new battery though, check on Amazon. I bought a cheap generic off brand battery from a no-name company. It has lasted much longer than my dell OEM battery, and it was a fraction of the price.
