I tried getting the hard drive out and cannot. Used a screwdriver, bad language, etc. and now I want to know if I can somehow destroy it while still in the computer? Someone said to drill holes in it. Well, I don't even know exactly where it is so that would be a lotta holes. Can I just throw the whole thing in the trash, or is that illegal????
I suspect that if you place it on your driveway and run over it a few times, most people won't bother trying to retrieve info off the hard drive (pun intended). Is it illegal to throw it away? Hon, EVERYTHING is illegal in the states. You might have to spend a few minutes finding the law that covers it, but that is the way it is.
If you look online, you can probably find the service manual for your laptop and look up how to replace the hard drive. Take it out and have your way with it. Hammers, cars, acid, and many other items can be used to render one dead.
A lot of posters seem to be missing the fact that the OP stated they cannot get the drives out of the laptops....
And unless it's in the other thread (that the mods haven't combined with this one yet) the OP also hasn't told us what brand/model they are so we can track down the instructions for removing them.
The faster you go the behinder you get.
