Yahoo e mail font size trouble
This started all the sudden today. Typing along in an e mail box and suddenly the font jumped to the largest size, 36.
I can't get rid of it. No matter what I do, when I pass the 5th line of type the font suddenly becomes gigantic. I've tried changing things in options, I've tried highlighting and changing the size, it makes no difference.
I'm using a lap top.
What did I do, and how do I undo it?
Keep it simple please.

I've never had the size change, but I've had the font change without my knowingly asking for it. So far, when I put the one I want back it stays for that use, but then it happens again later. Very inconsistent, though. I'm also clueless.

The only related settings in "Options" I know of is the "Plain text font" setting under General > Advanced Settings at the bottom and that is only for controlling the plain text font settings. Meaning it is only in effect if you view and write e-mails using "plain text":
Does this problem occur only on one computer using the same browser?
If this only occurred on one system, what is your operating system and browser you are using?
Also, have you tried another browser? Have you tried clearing out your browser cache and cookies then signing back in Yahoo to check?
Note: CTRL + SHIFT + DEL to access and delete browser cookie/cache/history.
In Yahoo Mail, when you click Compose message (new e-mail), what is the font/size setting that shows under Format tab?

thanks for your help.
No matter what I change the font settings to either in options or as I am typing, it reverts back to Sans Serif 1 with a size 18. Then, every time I hit enter, the font increases. I have cleared my cache and cookies, defragged, ran disc clean ups. One day it was working normally and I thought I had somehow fixed it, but now it is doing it again.
One computer, one user.
Vista, Firefox 14.0.1.

Are you sure your Content/Font settings are at default?
Please take a look at it and let me know what yours show for the "Advanced" settings (mine are customized, not default which is the reason why the text in the screenshot looks larger causing everything to be off):
Make sure the option (box) "Allow pages to choose..." is checked and also the "minimum font size" is set to either "none" or a size that you are comfortable with (typically 13 for most).

Ditto for a different operating system (Mac OS X 10.6.8) and Firefox version (15.0), either Plain Text or Rich Text mode, and started about a week ago.
Compose New Message in YahooMail, type a line, start a new paragraph, and it increases the font size with each new paragraph. Note that there *should* be no font change, as I'm running in Plain Text mode--but Yahoo Mail doesn't abide by that.
I briefly considered reporting this bug to Yahoo, but they have ignored every bug report I've sent in over the years, and never fixed anything, so no more help to Yahoo from me.
This doesn't happen in Firefox 11.0 or Firefox 14.0.1 (Mac OS X 10.6.8, two different machines), so this appears related to the later/latest versions of Firefox. I have a Linux machine, but I'm doing hardware upgrades, so can't test YahooMail on that today.

I have a very similar thing happening: I'm typing in an email, (in Firefox as the browser), and I back space to remove a letter/mistype/etc. The second I start typing again, poof...36 font. Maddening. And, I can't just reset the font size, I have to back up to the last character that was a '12' and then click there, THEN reset the font. Otherwise I reset it to '12' and type, but it's still 36. I'm keeping an eye on this thread with great hope for a solution - but you're not alone in font weirdness!

To the last poster: so this is only happening with Yahoo Mail using Firefox version 14.x or 15.x, is this correct?
I am using Firefox and Waterfox (which run on Firefox engine) and have not yet experienced anything out of the ordinary with fonts and I use Yahoo Mail daily.
I am wondering if there is a catalyst, like another program on your machine that could be causing this?
Also, what Office/Word Processing software do you have installed? It doesn't sound like Operating System is a key factor though.
One other thing, what Plugins & Extensions are installed on Firefox?
Tools > Add-ons > check the entries for both Extensions and Plugins on the left side list.
Do either one of you remember what the last thing you guys installed/uninstalled or updated on your system prior to this issue surfacing?

Yep. I've started writing e mail in openoffice.org then pasting over to an email box. What a pain in the neck. I'd drop yahoo, but UUGHHH I don't want to change my email address after all these years.

I don't recall any updates at the time. I was just typing away, hit enter to start a new paragraph and BAM there it was. It's infuriating but I have no idea how to fix it.
I use openoffice.org. Just updated to firefox 15.0. The problem started when I was in the previous version.
Let's see, in add on list.....
a coupon printer,
google,
browser plus for yahoo,
Adobe
McAfee
Silverlight plug in...(what the heck is that?)
Shockwave flash (what is that?)
Windows Advantage (?)
Windows Live Photo Gallery
Yahoo application state
Then a list of Java, all of which I disabled a week ago because of security issues.
If you can help me I will be so happy! What are some of those things I have under "add ons" and where did they come from?

I will do my best to troubleshoot this but of course I would have to know what the pattern or common software is on each effected system so I would need to know what identical software others who were also affected by this have. Then I can try to replicate the same environment but I believe my systems are quite comparable and none has shown the same symptoms though.
I will tell you the ones I am familiar with but you would have to Google the rest. Click "more" link under each to get more info. You should have listed Extensions and Plugins separately. Extensions are add-ons, whatever purpose they serve they get installed after (like security apps, I believe McAfee would be listed here). Plugins are used by the browser on the web pages that requires them (like Adobe Flash Player).

a coupon printer, > Don't know.
google, > Just plain Google (Earth)? Not sure.
browser plus for yahoo,
Adobe > Just plain Adobe? Not sure what this is exactly.
McAfee > I am guessing this is what you have as your Virus scanner?
Silverlight plug in...(what the heck is that?) > This is a interactive media plugin from MS much like Adobe Flash player.
Shockwave flash (what is that?) > Firefox's screwy naming convention, this is actually Adobe Flash player.
Windows Advantage (?) > MS created this Firefox Plugin so Firefox users can get their Windows validated as well. This is not something you need all the time but I wouldn't remove it if you are using Windows Updates or require Windows validation for any MS software installed besides Windows.

Try at least disabling them all, then restart Firefox and see if you encounter the same issue.
Or, even better, start Firefox in Safe Mode and check.
