Check your settings for sleep mode and hibernate. Turn them off and see if the behavior changes.

Vista is different. It doesnt have 'adv power settings'. It has choices for preferred plans (regarding energy savings and performance) under power options.

This is not looking good. Anything else i can do??? When i restart in normal mode i get to password screen, i type in password and it just keeps loading on welcome screen and doesnt take me to the desktop...

UPDATE****

I did a system restore from 5 days ago and got my desktop back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, I rec'd the following message:
"the system tester did not complete successful restore. Files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occured during system restore."

But now my computer is working fine....even w/that message, It went from welcome screen to desktop....on a side note I backed up all important stuff....

thanks to all and especially LOL-ITS-GOOD4U

What do I do now to totally protect the system? I have the free version of malwarebytes...do I run that every so often w/avast and ccleaner?? I thought those programs did that automatically..?
