Turn off the PC, unplug your keyboard, plug it into the outlet you've been using for the flash drive, and start the PC. Does the keyboard work?

Now plug the flash drive in where the keyboard was before and see what happens...

Yep, the keyboard works and no the flash drive still does not work. I have already figured that I will never be able to use it for the reason I bought it and will probably take it back or keep it to get info or files from other people. This just makes me so mad because I had to burn cds to transfer files and programs over to my laptop.

With the drive plugged in go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager

Are there any exclamation marks or question marks next to any devices? Any devices showing as unknown?

I keep plugging away here thinking that even if you get a different drive you may still have the same problem with the desktop.

BTW, do you have SP2 installed for XP on the desktop? I am assuming it's XP...

And if I may suggest. If you do decide to replace it try this:

Newegg.com - OCZ RALLY 2 4GB High Performance Dual Channel Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model OCZUSBR2DC-4GB - Retail (http://tinyurl.com/ynp2er - broken link)

I have no professional relationship with either the seller or the manufacturer. What I do have is experience with both as a purchaser, and I've been delighted with both.

I've ordered a lot from this seller over the last few years (I'm a computer consultant and resell equipment) for both my business and personal use and never had a problem with delivery, product-as-advertised, etc. Motherboards, video cards, RAM, hard drives, software, monitors, etc.

As for the manufacturer. Well, I have the item pictured in the link. I had one for about 8 months when it suddenly stopped working. I think when I plugged it into a client PC a virus may have gotten hold of it. Regardless, it was dead.

I contacted the company (lifetime warranty) and they sent me an RMA number and an address to return it to . Cost about $8 UPS. Had new, in the retail package drive in less than 2 weeks.

My kind of company.

BTW, I plug my drive into a lot of computers. Always recognized.

You could try and see if scandisk has a web site and updated driver for it. This assumes your windows is up to date too.
