Apple doesn't make laptops. They pay companies like Foxconn to do it for them. My $500 HP laptop is incredible. There's no reason Apple couldn't sell a similar laptop for the same price.
Apple is like BMW, they only focus on the high-end of the market. BMW doesn't have a car to compete with a Fiesta and Apple doesn't have a laptop to compete with a Chromebook.
This is partly why many people dislike Mac users so much. Macs are luxury products. If I said: “Everyone should have a BMW,” most people would find me obnoxious snob. But, in a way, it’s not much different than saying “Everyone should have a Mac.”
I’ve never owned an non-Apple computer (going all the way back to the Apple IIe I got in fourth grade), but I know that I’ve been fortunate.
And you do know how much it would cost to a big company with high volume purchasing? Of course it wouldn't be very cheap to an individual consumer buying these parts separately but I seriously doubt it costs Apple over $200 just to build one, especially when it is made overseas. Until I see more conclusive facts on it, I stand by my "BS" claim. Yes, they are trivial things. The whole i-anything line-up is trivial, luxury technology devices geared towards techno heads with extra money to burn or to wannabe yuppies in need of that certain iMage.
How would the computing life of any real geek be affected if all those iDevices disappeared? Not much, if at all because they are nothing more than electronic devices for entertainment-minded consumers, imho.
What you have said makes no sense whatsoever, since next the most expensive Apple-made laptop or desktop, there is a PC laptop or desktop that's just as expensive. And yes, there are a lot of junk and cheap PC computers one can buy, but if you want a good quality PC that's loaded to your specifications, you better have as much or more cash that most Mac computers. If you don't believe me, please do a Google search of, "the most expensive computers." Also, search for the most expensive laptops while you are at it.
In fact, if you go to B&H or a similar store and look at the computers that are ready for photo and movie editing, you will see that most of both the PC and the Macs are priced about the same.
As for me, I use "the pretty as a toaster and just as cheap PC's" at work, and they do just fine.
They should charge for support. Everybody else does. You can't walk into Geek Squad and expect an hour long session for free.
I hope they never do. As a 50 year old non-tech consumer, that hand holding and hour long sessions is exactly why I have been loyal to Apple since my first computer over 15 years ago. I don't mind paying more for that service, and I think they'd be stupid to change it now. I don't understand why anyone feels a company should make it a goal to lower their quality or standards.
i know for a fact iphone batteries was made in philippines in fact i dare u i phone owners to open your iphones and look where the batt is made in. wait... i think it's ipod.
We already know most things are made in other countries, regardless of company. The point of the thread as I see it is, is that now one company is bringing some of their jobs back here. It's a good thing, IMO. No one is saying Apple has a halo over it or anything, just that it's a start, and hopefully other companies will do the same.

Everything from all manufacturers, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, and the internal parts for them are made overseas. All Apple is saying is that it plans to built some of its computers in the US.
