Soon we're getting ready to move our stuff all the way from east coast to west coast and for that we decided to just stuff everything we're keeping in the car and drive there. One of my main concerns with this is my PC. Maybe I'm extra paranoid but I'm thinking of everything that could go wrong. I don't want for something to get shaken loose and broken or some hypothetical electrical or magnetic thing to somehow damage it during the whole ordeal or water to accidentally get in. I'm pretty knowledgeable on hardware and such, so how should I go about most safely packing it away? Would it be more or less dangerous to take the more valuable things out and put them in antistatic packaging or something (ex. my expensive graphics card, my hard drives with all my data) or should I just leave everything assembled? How should I wrap it up or box it or whatever? Has anyone else successfully managed a cross country trip with a PC and how did you do it?

PCs get shipped across the globe all the time by carriers like UPS who are famous for throwing things around like gorillas. It'll be fine stuffed in your trunk with enough stuff around it to keep it in place. Just make sure you have good backups. I use Crashplan for online backups and would also make a full backup to a USB drive and mail that to your destination, or have someone back home mail it to you after you arrive.

You are being extra paranoid. LOL /teasing.
As EC said, it should be fine.
If you really want to, by all means pull the video card and ram out and stuff them in some clothes.
But I think they'd actually be safer installed.

As others have pointed out, leave them together, and just make sure that they are packed where they can't fall over. We moved 600 mile a couple of years ago, and all five of our towers were just fine at the end of the move.

If you're really concerned, just wrap it in a blanket and dump it in the back seat. So long as you don't strap it to the roof and drive in the rain, it will be fine.

You're more likely to be killed driving there than your data are being lost.

Great, now there's something else to worry about. Perhaps bubble-wrapping the car?

As long as the computer is off, there isn't any moving parts. Short of being caught in a nuclear blast, I can't imagine any kind of EMR causing issues with it either.
