A quick search on Dell's website shows 13 laptops with Win7 and 32 laptops with Win8. So while most laptops come with Win8, Win7 is still available. Desktops are 11 Win7 and 26 Win8.
Best Buy shows 270 laptops with Win8 and 158 with Win7.

This is what I mean by them phasing out Windows 7. Windows 8 has been out little more than a month.

Check Dell's website on March 2007, a couple of months after the release of Windows Vista. All of them came with Vista.

By June of the same year, they added a link for XP laptops. People hated Vista and Dell had no option but to offer XP again. I wouldn't be surprised if, a few months from now, Dell, Best Buy, and most other computer manufacturers and retail sellers start selling Win7 PC's again.

That's if people start hating Windows 8, so far people are receiving it very well.

You can find positive reviews if you look but for every positive review, you can find 10 negative. Sales and business data tell the real story. Sales on new computers have dropped over 20% since the official release of Windows 8, windows phone and Surface sales are almost nonexistent leading to Microsoft cutting their manufacturing orders by half.
If they would give up and just release an update allowing users to deactivate that aggravating metro UI, I believe the public would be more accepting to Windows 8. I personally don't think the Windows phone or Surface have a chance regardless of what they do other than scrapping the OS altogether and trying again. You see, their track of thought is that if they put that aggravating metro UI on desktops and laptops, users will then get used to it and thus start buying the phones and tablets but so far it is actually backfiring and causing the computers to also not sell. My biggest problem with it is I hate clutter on my desktop. The only time I have even one icon on it is when I am going to be opening the same application or folder repeatedly or need quick access to something. Once I am done, I delete the icon from my desktop. That stupid metro UI has tiles everywhere and I absolutely hate it.
Got a laptop for christmas that came with win8 installed. Previously I used xp. So this has been a shock. I feel like I'm having go learn how to use a computer all over again. For some reason it just feels unintuitive. In summary: hating win8.

I thought the same thing when I went from MS-DOS 5.0 to Windows 1.04, boy was I wrong....

Time will tell with Windows 8...
But, at least good ole' DOS was there for you. Up until Windows 3.11, your PC booted into DOS by default. You could run any of your DOS programs or you could run "win" to start Windows. And that's what Windows 8 should've done. Boot into the desktop by default, with the start menu and everything, and then let you run Metro if you want to.
