Samsung 840 series. Gotta say...I'm happy with it. I'm also rather proud of myself. Not that it was that hard...but it's nice being able to do this stuff yourself without having to take it to someone and pay lots of $$.

Good job! Enjoy your speed. Just curious, why did you go with the 840 over the 830?

The 830 series seems to be quite a bit more expensive from what I've seen. I got the one I got based on price, and I know that Samsung makes a solid drive.

I did the same with a 120.

It takes a while to get used to the two internal hard drive things though.

I keep instinctively downloading stuff to the desktop. The drive is f-f-fast though. The reboot times are ridiculous, Windows 8 was already fast as it was.

I bought the older Samsung 512 GB 830 probably 9 months ago at $630 on sale. It's my spare boot drive because it's too hard to transfer all my video games and game saves to use this hd. SO I suffer a 9 minute bootup on my regular hd.

The newer Samsung 840 PRO is the one to get; the regular 840 uses cheaper memory technologies.

I heard the Samsung was the way to go. Getting a new laptop with a Corsair Neutron - it was a freebie offer and it is not as good as the Samsung but the reviews were still favorable--looking forward to it.

oh you've got the itch now! that first time is always nice, right?

next you'll need more RAM, a new CPU, power supply, maybe a new mobo, etc. . .

and think of how much you can save doing it yourself! let's go to newegg and pick some stuff out.

Samsung is great... but not the 840.

Out of curiosity, why did you spend $630 on a drive if you aren't going to boot with it? That is a lot of money for it to be just a spare, right?
