I just got a request today to remove the Space Needle picture from Win8. Unfortunately, you must have some picture on the lock screen but you can choose from anything in your pictures folder.

Then I wondered if it was possible to disable this bit of tabletness that's pointless on a desktop PC. As it turns out, there's a very simple local security policy edit which does it. Yay, one more Win8 annoyance conquered.

This is what I don't think MS will ever truly understand.
Customization. People like to customize their PC's. Why there isn't a menu option for this under PERSONALIZE is simply maddening. You have to use group policy to disable the Lockscreen. Really? Really Microsoft????

I actually prefer this change. I'm sick of Microsoft and their 15 different ways to accomplish the same task. It makes troubleshooting a pain.

For example, I had a customer who rolled off a project and one of their security polices was to disable writing to a USB device attached to their PC. The project didn't roll back the change and there about 5 different ways to disable USB writing. So I had to check each one to enable writing.

I can't say I feel your pain. I'd rather have 5 different ways of approaching a problem than a single way to have it one way or the other, whether you like it or not...
