I did the reset as suggested and I am still getting the individual windows on the bottom just like before. Now I am getting a new message. When I search and enter I get a quick window that says navigation to the web page was canceled and then it goes to the requested page.

Since your problems are happening in Internet Explorer, I would download another browser and see if you have better luck with it. This was one of the previous recommendations here.
I would download firefox and try to do your internet work with it (searches, web browsing, etc.). Click on the top right where it says Download Latest Version. Here's the link for downloading it.
Download Firefox 19.0.1 - FileHippo.com
If you don't have problems with firefox, then you've isolated it to internet explorer, and the next step would be to uninstall IE and then re-install it. Give it a try and let us know how firefox works out for you.
