I can't believe the size and cheap cost of these drives, but I don't know their height...

3TB/7200 SATA6 3.5" INTERNAL HD| B&H Photo Video

I guess the laptop I will get in 2014 will be upgraded to a 3TB hd!

3.5"? What notebook uses a 3.5" drive? And why do you need more than 1tb in a notebook anyway? Give me a 1tb ssd and i'll be happy.

Yeah I looked up the part number. Definitely 3.5" desktop drives mislabeled as notebook drives on B&H.

B&H annoys the heck out of me because they're never open when I stop by. They close down on the weekends and ALL Jewish holidays. Oh well. Good for them if they can be closed so often and still be a top retailer.

2.5" x 9mm maximum. It's weird, why do they mix between imperial for width and metric for height?

Anyway you can replace the optical drive in many (most?) laptops and put two drives in. I've thought about removing the optical drive in my macbook and fitting an ssd and hdd many a time.

True, but most laptops only accept 9.5mm (not 9 sorry.)

Probably the same reason my tires are 265mm wide on 18" wheels.

Or why you can buy soda in 12oz cans or 20oz 1L, or 2L bottles.
