Just wondering...cause I heard a Art Bell show long ago...(yes to me it's still and always be the Art Bell show)....
But anyhow...had some techi guy on saying how others could remotely enter your com****r and spy on you through your web cam lense mounted on your lap top or any camera you have hooked up to your com****r...
Is there a techi out there who could verify or deny this...
Can people actually see what your doing through your web cam camera, even if you think it's off??

One way this can work is through a 'clickjack', where an unremarkable link actually has as it's 'action' a hidden component that tricks the unwary user into installing a powerful JavaScripted malicious code ("Flash" for example) that can access your computers resources, like webcam or microphone.
Best to cover the lens when not in use.
The attacker would need to install software on the target computer. Considering how many people install malware on their computers, it wouldn't be hard to get software installed that activates the camera. It probably doesn't happen much because there's not much incentive. Where's the profit? Sure, there's the voyeuristic aspect of it, but its not like there isn't already tons of such material available on the net for free.
Someone could get Trojan per e-mail.

In 2004 hackers unleashed the W32/Rbot-GR worm, better known as the "Peeping Tom" virus, which exploited a number of Microsoft security vulnerabilities -- installing a backdoor Trojan horse. The security flaws have long been patched, but other versions of the bug are being turned out all the time.

You can buy a laptop webcam cover that sticks around the lens, not over it, online for $5-10. Better than sticking tape over it and leaving glue traces over the lens when you remove it.
I suspected this so I unplug my webcam when I'm looking at porn!
