This may cause the occasional funky problem but the best thing to do is change it in the control panel which enlarges everything. It used to be called DPI but not anymore which is something they should of done ages ago.

Just for the browser in FF you can set a minimum font size, sure about IE.

If making the text larger and the icons larger doesn't make it more readable, then sorry to say you may need to be in the medical forum. Then it sounds more like cataracts or blindness is the issue.

The macbook pro retina and chromebook pixel have the best resolution, though it sounds like that wont make any difference. She needs to see an optometrist/opthalmic surgeon.
