None of those solutions worked. Not only is this annoying but it even prevents me opening IE many times. Ugh! Will keep trying for solution.

You would think that Microsoft would have a web site, forum, help e-mail, etc. to resolve issues like this. ie; Windows Host Process (Rundll32) Has Stopped Working.
I have MS Windows, MS Vista and nowhere can I find assistance from MS. Go figure.

I would give this suggestion a try and see if you can find "which application is running the rundll32.exe file." Follow his simple instructions for doing it under Windows Vista/7. He tells you what to do if you find the program/issue and what to do next if you don't. Seems easy enough to try.

How to Fix the Rundll32.exe Error

Thanks. I tried all those suggestions. None worked. This pops up when I double click on IE icon. Prevents IE opening. I have to go Start, then open IE. Does not pop up when opening IE in this manner. It does not pop up when I double click on any other icon. Just IE. This is one annoying problem.

I have run malware scan, virus scan, etc over and over. Computer now starts in normal mode. All programs/software are working. Only problem now is I sometimes get a message: Windows host process Rundll32 has stopped working. I am researching windows/internet to determine how to correct this problem.
Thanks for all your recommendations.
Did you buy a used computer, or have you had this one for a few years?

I would download the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Next, I would uninstall Internet Explorer.

Finally, I would start Firefox browser and download and reinstall Internet Explorer.

You can't uninstall IE, it's integral to the OS. You can uninstall newer versions than what your OS shipped with, but you can't uninstall it altogether.
