Uh yes, of course. In 8.1, you can even skip the start screen entirely and go straight into the desktop, foregoing the arduous task of clicking the "Desktop" tile.

Well that certainly sounds easy enough. I can handle small changes...lol. Just to be sure, I'll probably try to find someone who has a computer with Windows 8 or one on display in a store so I can try it out.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Unless my PC completely croaks between now and then, I'll wait until the the new 8.1 version comes out. I was reading about that online late last night and it appears that Microsoft is going to change or delete some of the unpopular features in Windows 8 in the new version.
I see many users migrating from the traditional desktop to more mobile devices; it's a trend I see progressing too. Information is a commodity and users want it when they need it.
ut still smart phone sells are slowing in many countries. In that regard more and more see no need to upgrade. The non-smart phone sells are continue overall tho in world. That is what happened to computer sales afterwindows & ;people see no reason to go to windows 8 and new machine.
It is interesting that the #1 PC seller in the world, sold more phones and tablets than computers. It's telling of what direction we are going in.

When Nivida Logan processors come out for tablets - that's when I'll get a tablet. I have no use for a tablet now except for looking at my Nook, Kindle, and pdf books. But my pdf book collection is over 80 GB so I need a tablet with SDHC expansion capability too.

The ThinkPad Helix Tablet has 256gb of storage so you can store your books on it. Realistically, however, you should be using cloud storage for that kind of data.
